"Had to have a turbo replaced on our 2003  F 250 power stroke. After inspection we had to have seals and a lot of other things replaced due to just being old and worn."

Transmission Repair FAQs

  • Is it worth fixing a transmission?

In most cases, yes repairing a transmission is worthwhile, especially if your vehicle is otherwise in good condition. A quality transmission repair typically costs $1,500-$4,500, which is significantly less than purchasing a new vehicle. This depends on your vehicle's age, overall condition, and mileage. For newer vehicles or those with higher market values, transmission repair is almost always economical. At MDP Diesel & Auto, we provide honest assessments to help you determine if repair is the best option for your specific situation.

  • How long does transmission repair take?

The amount of time to fix your vehicle’s transmission depends on what’s wrong with it. For minor repairs, such as a sensor replacement, it could take 1-2 days. For a complete replacement, 2-4 days. And for specialty work, 5-7 days.

  • Can I drive with transmission problems?

We strongly advise against driving with known transmission problems. Continuing to drive with a failing transmission can:

    • Turn a minor repair into a complete transmission failure
    • Create safety hazards if the transmission slips, hesitates, or fails while driving
    • Cause additional damage to other drivetrain components
    • Significantly increase your repair costs

If you suspect transmission issues, it's best to have your vehicle towed to our shop for diagnosis. For minor symptoms, drive cautiously and schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
